Jim Stoik: “Δεν πληρώνουν” οι ιδρυτές του Pirate Bay

Να κάνουν έφεση εναντίον της απόφασης καταδίκης είναι αποφασισμένοι, οι τέσσερις ιδρυτές της ιστοσελίδας Pirate Bay, ίσως της πιο δημοφιλούς ιστοσελίδας ανταλλαγής αρχείων στο Διαδίκτυο. Σουηδικό δικαστήριο τους καταδίκασε σε φυλάκιση ενός χρόνου και υπέρογκο πρόστιμο ύψους 4,5 εκατομμυρίων δολαρίων.

Η υπόθεση είναι φυσικό να προκαλεί αντιδράσεις στον κόσμο του Ίντερνετ όπου η ανταλλαγή αρχείων είναι πολύ συνηθισμένη διαδικασία και σχετικά «θολή» ως προς το τι επιτρέπεται, τι όχι και σε ποια βάση. Ικανοποίηση εκφράζουν οι εταιρείες παραγωγής για τις οποίες κάθε τέτοια κίνηση, σημαίνει απώλειες κερδών από τις πωλήσεις.

Μετά την καταδίκη για παραβίαση του νόμου περί πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων οι τέσσερις ιδρυτές του Pirate Bay, Φρέντερικ Νέι, Γκοτφριντ Σβαρτχολμ Βαργκ, Καρλ Λούντστρομ και Πέτερ Σούντε, δήλωσαν ότι δεν πρόκειται να πληρώσουν το πρόστιμο και ότι θα κάνουν έφεση για αυτή την απόφαση, την οποία χαρακτήρισαν «παράξενη».

«Είναι πολύ σοβαρό να καταδικάζεσαι σε φυλάκιση. Είναι πολύ σοβαρή καταδίκη και μας φαίνεται παράξενη η απόφαση» λέει ο Σούντε, ο οποίος αντιμετώπισε την κατάσταση με χιούμορ.

«Είναι ιδιαίτερα περίεργο ότι καταδικαστήκαμε και ως ομάδα. Ο δικαστής λέει ότι συμμετείχαμε σε οργανωμένη δράση, αλλά εγώ δεν μπορώ να σηκώσω τον Γκότφριντ από το κρεβάτι το πρωί με τίποτα. Αν ήταν να μας καταδικάσουν για κάτι ας ήταν για «ανοργάνωτο έγκλημα». (…) Δεν μπορούμε να πληρώσουμε, ούτε και θέλουμε. Προτιμώ να κάψω ό,τι περιούσια έχω και να τους δώσω τις στάχτες» συμπληρώνει ενώ υποστηρίζει ότι το Pirate Bay θα συνεχίσει το ταξίδι του στο μέλλον παρά τη δικαστική απόφαση.

Σημειώνεται ότι το πρόστιμο επεβλήθη ως αποζημίωση σε εταιρείες όπως η Warner Bros, η Sony Music Entertainment, η ΕΜΙ και η Columbia Pictures. Οι εταιρείες ζητούσαν 17,5 εκατομμύρια δολάρια ως αποζημίωση από το Pirate Bay.

Jim Stoik: Ο Conficker χτυπάει το πανεπιστήμιο της Utah

Φαίνεται ότι το worm Conflicker δεν ήταν απλά ένα πρωταπριλιάτικο αστείο. Σύμφωνα με αναφορά του Associated Press την περασμένη Κυριακή, μολύνθηκε το Πανεπιστήμιο της Utah με το worm Conficker. Συνολικά, η αναφορά ισχυρίζεται ότι περίπου 700 υπολογιστές του πανεπιστημίου μολύνθηκαν από το κακόβουλο λογισμικό. Ανάμεσα στους υπολογιστές αυτούς είναι και αυτοί του νοσοκομείου του Πανεπιστημίου, αν και αξιωματούχου του νοσοκομείου αναφέρουν ότι δεν υπήρξε πρόβλημα με τα ιατρικά στοιχεία των ασθενών και το ιστορικό τους.

Έτσι αποδεικνύεται ότι δεν είναι ευάλωτοι μόνο μεμονωμένοι υπολογιστές, αλλά ακόμα και μεγάλα δίκτυα σε πανεπιστημιακό περιβάλλον με πολλούς υπολογιστές, των οποίων η ασφάλεια και η αναβάθμιση δεν είναι και πολύ εύκολο πράγμα…

Jim Stoik: To Gmail υποστηρίζει επιτέλους εικόνες

Υλοποιήθηκε επιτέλους η δυνατότητα ενσωμάτωσης εικόνας στο σώμα ενός email, στο Gmail. Η λειτουργία μπορεί να ενεργοποιηθεί μέσω του Google Labs, του χώρου όπου πειραματίζονται οι προγραμματιστές της Google για διάφορες νέες προσθήκες και βελτιώσεις. Οι περισσότερες υπηρεσίες email έδιναν αυτή τη δυνατότητα εδώ και χρόνια, αλλά οι χρήστες του Gmail έπρεπε να στέλνουν τις εικόνες σαν συνημμένα αρχεία.

Τώρα αρκεί να ενεργοποιήσουν το “Inserting images” από το Google Labs που βρίσκεται στην καρτέλα Settings. Οι εικόνες μπορούν να ενσωματωθούν με δύο τρόπους, είτε με upload από τον υπολογιστή του χρήστη, είτε μέσω URL από κάποιο site.
